American Idol Top 9 McCartney and Lenon Night

McCartney and Lennon songs tonight and I am so glad. I don’t know how some of these folks are going to do them, but I guess we will hear.

Aaron Kelly: * The Long and Winding Road was too long for me from start to finish.

Katie Stevens: *** Let it Be. Nice job. I can see her in the country music industry.

Andrew Garcia: ** Money Can’t Buy Me Love. It sounded like a song from a disco show in the 80’s. Sorry.

Michael Lynch: **** Eleanor Rigby. Nice arrangement, nic job.

Cyrstal Bowersox: ***** I loved that arrangement of Come Together. I loved the arrangement as well and would be nice to hear that on the radio someday.

Tim Urban: ** He did All My Lovin. He did it staright with a couple of twists. Not bad, but not over the top either.

Casey James: *** I was skeptical when I heard he was going to do Jealous by Lennon, but he really pulled it off. Not bad at all. 3 stars.

Siobhan Magnus: *** Very nice and no screaming.

Lee Dewyze: *** He started off a little flat and also what I thought was a bit high of a key to start off with but did alright I guess.

Grrrr. Ryan get’s under my skin. Sometimes I think he thinks it’s the Ryan Seacrest show. Uh uh. Not in your dreams. lol.

Let’s just jump right into what happened this week. First the gals, and then the guys. I think this week the bad singing was pretty much equally divided between both sexs. Tonight it opened up with the group sing and I really like that song. Gonna say it again. Ryan get’s on my nerves.

The opening with Ellen sitting on Simon’s lap was wierd but I guess they did it for the laugh. I didn’t laugh. We’re down to 8 girls and the first one was Katie Steven’s.

Katie Stevens: ** Started flat. Too low for her. Too flat. Was waiting for something to happen and nothing did. Was too karaoke for me.

Siobhan Magnus: **** Very nice; loved her tone; and she took the song somewhere and made it her own.

Lacey Brown: *** Unique voice; in tune; interesting to me for the first time.

Katelyn Epperly: ** Didn’t move me, thrill me, or kill me. Sorry. The song was all over the place and it sounded like a lounge act.

Did Benami: *** She surprised me this week. Again, she has a unique voice. Good for some kind of genre. Maybe old dtyle. She was in tune but kind of just so so as it went on.

Paige Miles: * A big disappointment. She was flat at times and I don’t want to type anymore.

Crystal Bowersox: ***** Gave her 5 stars. That was terrific. Reminds a little of a mellower Janis Joplin. lol.

Lilly Scott: * I almost fell to pieces when she started the song. lol. OUCH! She may go home. Sorry.

It’s ladies night on American Idol and hope they do better than last week. I will be paying attention better tonight seeing how I got my work done for the day. I know the girls have to do better than the guys last night. I hope Ryan sticks with hosting the show and not butt in with his comments. Yo Ryan, let the judges, including Simon, do their job. Sheesh!

Ho-hum…..tonight’s show was about as exciting as watching wallpaper dry. And no wonder – those judges have the guys confused….”make it your own” – and when they do, the judges jump them for not sticking with the original song. I agree with Kieto – Michael was by far the best and the rest? Very unforgettable for me. I really don’t care who goes home, but I don’t think it will be Aaron or Tim (who was a little better tonight).

My pick to exit is John Park and Jermaine Sellers.

Cyrstal Bowersox: **** I think she did a great job with that song. She put a twist on it and at first, I didn’t think it was going to work out. But she did a good job.

Halley Vaughn: ** OK. Was she off pitch? I mean, I think it was probably hard to follow Crystal but that was awful at times. ouch.

Lacey Brown: ** Nothing for me. Sorry. Pitchy at times, but ok at times. 2 stars

Katie Stevens: *** I liked it when she started. It got better which is a good thing. She took some dips here and there but ended up alright. She has a nice voice.

Didi Benami: ** She started sort of off her cookies. And stayed like all though the song. Worse than last week.

Michelle Delamore: *** Did alright and has my vote to be in top 10.

Lilly Scott: *** She a great job with that song. She’ll be in top 10.

Katelyn Epperly: ** Way too slow but she sang it very meaningful. Went off key at the end.

Paige Miles: *** She did alright.

Siobhan Magnus: **** WOW. When she hit that high nore… I about flipped. I thought that was super. Top 10.

Tonight, March 2nd, 2010 featured the guys. There are 2 more guys and 2 more gals going home on Thursday. I hope I am not too disappointed. How about you? I always write my comments down before the song is over and it was uncanny to me how close I came to what the judges said. Also, Simon said at the beginning he thought the girls last week were a smidge better than the guys. I disagree.

Michael Lynch: **** I think he did an excellent job. It was in tune, a good song and he did well. Just a little to cocky at this point for me.
John Park: ** Didn’t do it for me. My mind drifted to what I was going to get at the grocery store tomorrow and started a grocery list.
Casey James: *** The third star was for the guitar playing. As for his singing and the song, fagettabotit.
Todrick Hall: ** sry. At this point, these guys should be really trying harder. I bit my fingernail and he didn’t WOW me.
Jermaine Sellers: *** He do just OK. He’s got nice pitch and stage presence.
Andrew Garcia: ** He seems to be going backward. I went from really liking him to second guessing myself. He had bad pitch problems and he was just not the Andrew I heard the day of his audition.
Aaron Kelly: ** What’s going on? He surprised me as well. I am starting to agree with Simon for what he said at the beginning of the show. This was just awful and so was his vibrato. Ugh!!
Tim Urban: ** A little better but still off key and I guess maybe the girls watching are swooning.
Lee Dewyze: ** Sounded a bit like Sting in the beginning. But then made a left turn somewhere. Sry.

Best of the night… Michael Lynch and that was it for me.

Tonight’s show reminded me of way back when. Remember Up With People? lol. Anyways, both the guys and gals came out singing a nice little tune. Here’s the way folks are voting for tonights dismissal. Allison Iraheta, who was one of my favorites last season sang a song I couldn’t make heads nor tails out of. lol. But that’s me. Chris Allen sang Let it Be. I got that one. hahaha

New American Idol Judge Ellen Degeneres

Ellen Degeneres is finally here and I thought she was great as a judge. I had my reservations, but I was wrong. Hope she is like that all through the rest of the season. She brings comedy to an already popular show. Something they were lacking.

Out of over 100,000 people who tried out for AI, approximately 181 people made it through to Hollywood. We’re still in the early stage of AI and are only getting to hear a few who make it through to next round. I am looking forward to when they get down to 12 guts and 12 girls.

I liked a few during the first half of the show but my favorite was Andrew Garcia. I see him going all the way. Then there was Janelle Wheeler, Haley Vaghn, Lilly Scott, Michael Lynch and Mary Powers.

Getting close to the end of the show, Casey James was alright. Didi Benami was pretty good. Crystal made it through. She was pretty good.

My picks for tonight was Andrew Garcia and Crystal.
