Karen Rodriguez

Ah yes… the group sing! And then the group commercial. OK. Let’s get down to business. Here’s who we thought was going home as of last night.

According to our grades or picks.

Mary: Naima
Sue: Naima
Skipper: Paul McDonald
Kieto: Paul McDonald

My Poll Votes: Who do you think is going home?
Naima or Paul McDonald

Bottom 3 from tonights episode?
Haley Reinhart (Paul McDonald is safe so that knocks me and Skipper out so we can’t win that all expense paid vacation for two to the Caribbean)
Naima ( Sue and Mary got it right for the bottom three. I just think Paul should GO!)
Karen Rodriguez
Mary said … Karen: Oh, Karen.  I think the web audition has done her a disservice with the voters, as she just showed up in Hollywood Week with no prior introduction, no “I’m going to Hollywood!” footage.  She’s got a good voice, but there’s no excitement there.  I think she’s in danger.  B-
Skipper said: Karen: B Somehow she seemed more nervous to me.  I do like her, but she did go off pitch toward the end.  Less than most!

Last seasons’ Lee DeWyze performed. B. lol.

I really enjoyed The Black Eyed Peas although I enjoy the Christian music genre better myself.

And the person going home is….

Karen Rodriguez

I can’t believe it! Naima stays… Paul McDonald stays. Oh well.

American Idol Top 12

Tonight’s Top 12 American Idol episode had it’s ups and downs. OK. The judges are falling all over themselves this year on everybody. I miss Simon. How bout you? It’s flat singers and it’s sharp singers. Out of tune and great pitch singers. Something for everyone. Here’s how I graded them. Now, remember, this is just my opinion. Oh, and don’t forget to take the poll.

1. Naima Adedapo : C (gave a B last week) : I bit pitchy but what do I know? haha. But Jennifer was with me on that.

2. Paul McDonald  : D (gave a C+ last week) : This guy is slipping. A Karaoke singer with white teeth.

3. Thia Megia : B (gave a B- last week) : A little better than last week. But didn’t ring any bells for me.

4. James Durbin  : A- (gave a A last week) : A rocker man. But gave him a – because he was a little pitchy at times. But most rockers are. That’s why their rockers.

5. Haley Reinhart : B (gave a C+ last week) : She did a great job with that song and really stepped up from last week. I could not disagree with Paula. But then again, she is there and in the biz.

6. Stefano Langon  : B+ (gave a B last week) : He did ok with the song. I guess I’m hungry cause all the songs and singers are sounding the same. lol.

7. Pia Toscano : A (gave a A last week) : She has a great voice. Love the way she travels around without any farefare.

8. Scotty McCreery  : B (gave a C+ last week) : Did a nice job and for the most part, in tune throughout.

9. Karen Rodriguez : B (gave a C+ last week) : Better. I think she should sing more Spanish. What do you think?

10. Casey Abrams : B (gave a C last week) : I really took a chance this week with the screaming song with 4 chords but pulled it off… I think.

11. Lauren Alaina : C (gave a C last week) : I know she has the flu but it sounded the same as last week to me. Near the end it was more karaoke than a performance on the Idol. I guess the judges are hearing something else. I miss Simon.

12. Jacob Lusk  : B- (gave a B last week) : He did alright I guess.

Please take the Poll. Pick a Guy and/or a girl.

American Idol Elimination Week 1

Boy, I asked what you thought about Scotty and you sure told me. haha. Anyways, glad there are at least 4 of us. Skipper did not catch the show but sure she will be on along the way. Here’s what we have so far.

According to grades and remarks…
Sue says… Ashton Jones, Karen Rodriguez, and Paul McDonald.
Mary D says… Ashton Jones, Karen Rodriguez and looks like Stefano.
Kieto says… Lauren Alaina, Karen Rodriguez and Casey Abrams.

The show started off with a group sing and that was fun. Nice hearing everyone. But I did not hear too much from… Scotty! HA. So, who is going home tonight? First…

Car commercial with the 13 kids.

then…

Red Riding Hood Premiere

then…

the 1st in the Bottom 3 was…

Karen Rodriguez
Then we had…

Adam Lambert with an original. I am getting old. Very nice song though.

Ashton Jones, and Haley Jones are the next 2 with the least number of votes.

Who goes home??

Ooops… not yet.

A PDiddy Song. I’m comin home.

OK. Now? Who is going home?

Ashton Jones

Once again, even with just 2 other peeps, Kieto get’s it wrong…. AGAIN!! And I should have got that one. She wasn’t all that good. Even in her final farewell song she was sharp and flat in a few places. CYA!

American Idol Top 13 Season 10

Tonight’s show was pretty dog gone entertaining. It had more ups than downs, more in tune than flat or sharp and more talent. Please take the Poll below. Below the polls are my thoughts.

Season Ten Ladies

1. Lauren Alaina : C : Country singer. Just ok to me
2. Ashthon Jones :  B- : Just OK. Nothing memorable to me.
3. Pia Toscano : A : Don’t want top give an A+ yet but that came pretty close.
4. Haley Reinhart : C+ : Just alright for me. Nice song but nothing unique.
5. Thia Megia : B- : Man, she started off really good, but right in the middle, right at the beginning of the tempo change, she was so flat, I almost fell off my chair.
6. Karen Rodriguez : C+ : It was just a safe song for her I think and she was a bit pitchy at times.
7. Naima Adedapo : B : Did a much better job than last time. She was a bit  pitchy throughout the song but they all do that. She gets a B.

Season Ten Guys

1. Casey Abrams : C : Joe Cocker song. Did an pretty good job. But thought he kind of fizzled at the end.
2. Paul McDonald  : C+ : This guy has always been one of my favs but tonight, he did not move me with that selection.
3. James Durbin  : A : Well, this guy is a rocker. Nice arrangement… nice job. Surprised me.
4. Jacob Lusk  : B : Man, I thought he was out of tune and pitchy throughout. He hit that last note in tune though. He was one of my favs too. But listening to the judges, I guess they are hearing something else.
5. Stefano Langon  : B : Pitchy in the beginning but came alive at the keychange and tempo change. Not bad but not great either.
6. Scotty McCreery  : C+ : Country song and did nothing for me. Out.. of … tune. The crowd goes crazy and I just don’t know what the heck they are hearing. How about you?

Please leave your comments below. Thanks!!

Who’s going home? According to my critique from last night’s show on the girls, I say Ashthon Jones, Julie Zorrilla, Kendral Chantelle, Ta-Tynisa Wilson, Pia Toscano and Rachel Zevita.

I can’t say about the guys because I missed the show. My picks to go home though with the guys are… well, I think they are all good from what I heard in the past. But if I were to pick 6, they would be Brett Loewenstern, Clint Jun Gamboa, Jovany Barreto, Robbie Rosen and Tim Halperin. We’ll see.

The ones picked to go were:

Guys (I picked 5 out of 6)
Robbie Rosen
Jordan Dorsey
Clint Jun Gamboa
Jovany Barreto
Tim Halperin
Brett Loewenstern

Girls (I picked 3 out of 6)
Ta-Tynisa Wilson
Julie Zorrilla
Ashthon Jones
Kendra Chantelle
Lauren Turner
Naima Adedapo

Reprieve Solos:

Ashthon Jones sang first and I thought she did not do a good job with that song. But the judges of course loved it. I think she would do better with the mellow songs.

Stefano Langone sang next. I always thought he had a great voice and he proved it again. In tune and right on.

Next was Kendra Chantelle surprised me with Georgia On My Mind.

Jovany Barreto did a great job with his song but I don’t think he is going through.

Naima Adedapo was a favorite of mine early on. She’s a jazz singer for sure. She really put her heart and soul into that song.

And finally…

Robbie Rosen sang a love song. He has Justin Beiber Head beat to pieces!

The 3 that got a reprieve…

Ashthon Jones

Stefano Langone

Naima Adedapo

American Idol Top 12

Casey Abrams
Jacob Lusk
James Durbin
Paul McDonald
Scotty McCreery
Lauren Alaina
Thia Megia
Haley Reinhart
Ashthon Jones
Stefano Langone
Naima Adedapo
Pia Toscano
Rachel Zevita

See ya next Wednesday. I will be having some polls later on.

American Idol Top 12 Ladies

Tonight’s show had it’s ups and downs but this is what I came up with.

American Idol Top 12 Ladies

Ta-Tisnisa Wilson: Judges liked her but I didn’t care for the way she sang the song or the song period. But it probably sounds different there than on the TV.

**** Naimi Adedapo: Very nice arrangement of Summertime and she did an excellent job. WOW on that one.

Kendral Chantelle: Started off good and she surprised me a bit, but went off key a few times.

Rachel Zevita: She was awful. Man, out of tune and nothing more to say about this one.

Karen Rodriguez: The Spanish part of the song was good! I thought she was a bit weak. And again, the judges liked her too.

*** Lauren Turner: Not bad but didn’t ring of my bells. Good finish.

Ashthon Jones: I really expected more from her. I thought she was out of tune a bunch. Oh well. I am really missing something tonight. The judges are really falling over themselves on some of these people.

Julie Zorrilla: Parts of what she did were alright but nothing stands out for me so far.

Haley Reinhart: She was better than the last 2 but again, nothing stood out for me.

****Thia Megia: Very nice and I really enjoyed that performance. She is going far.

***Lauren Alaina: She did a good job with that song. Darkhorse

****Pia Toscano: Excellent job with this song. Good tone, on key, good dynamics.

Kitchen Nightmares New York City

Kitchen Nightmares New York City

PJ’s Steakhouse in Forest Hills Neighborhood in Queens

Chef Ramsey visits another restaurant on the skids. It’s called PJ’s Steakhouse. The chef is a guy who thinks he is a great chef but he really isn’t. The owners are divided. One has given up and his wife works with a major attitude. Can Chef Ramsey turn this restaurant around?

Watching this restaurant during service was a joke. The cook doesn’t communicate putting everything behind; the husband sits at the bar and the wife complains constantly about not being a server, hostess, etc. The first night was terrible to say the least.

With rotten food found in the fridge, Ramsey takes them to a theater where they listen to past customers. The cook, of course doesn’t believe them. I would have fired the cook and got a new one or let the kitchen manager take over.

Well, that took care of that. Cook is gone and they hired a new chef to turn the place around and did he ever. The first night of service was great and everyone is happy. Loved the show.

AI Goes to Austin Texas

American Idol in Austin, Texas

OK. A brother and sister opened the show with the brother doing the auditioning. Corey Levoy was his name and he will be someone to watch as time goes on.

This girl Holly was up next and they gave her another chance. You could tell she was nervous, or I should say, a basket case. The secong time wasn’t any better but she tried to pull it together and they put her through after she sang a Miley Cirus song. lol. She may just be the dark horse.

John Wayne Shultz was up next and we had another (an aww moment) story and sure there will be more. But he did a great job and will be our country singer I think.

The Ryan Seacrest groupie… well… let me put it this way… I’ll never eat ice cream before the show again. I guess he does have his fans. Courtney Penry did an alright job… surprised me but still won’t eat ice cream before the show again.

After the commercial, we saw, but really didn’t hear the judges put a few people through. But a love story of sorts and another story opened the segment. lol. They, Nick and Jacqueline both got through.

Janelle Arthur was great. I think she’ll go all the way. I know I am saying it early but we’ll see. I went to look her name up on the net and man there was a hate site that kind of shocked me. But check this out.

Casey Abrams blew me away. lol. He was pretty good. Man that was crazy. And he played the melodica. WOW! lol.

AI Goes to Music City Nashville

American Idol in Nahville, TN. Music City

American Idol was pretty darn good. The divorced couple both did a nice job and both made it through to Hollywood. Gonna be some kind of story there I think

Then there was a girl named stormy. I thought she was just OK and they put her through.

Don’t ya love the stories they put to a contestant before they appear in from of the judges?

Adreinne Beasley was adopted at 2 years old by some farmers and they raised her well. She made it through to Hollywood.

Jackie Wilson at 20 sounded alright but I didn’t think she did as well from the way the judges reacted to her.

More stories, more people going through but nothing outstanding. That surprised me being in Nashville and all.

The last gal of the hour was pretty good. I think her name was Lauren.
